BACTA – Research Technician – biotechnology

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a hands-on Research Technician to run reliable screening campaigns that advance our industrial strains.

You will prepare and maintain microbial cultures, execute several workflows in parallel, and support routine molecular biology and analytical work. Your success will be measured by clean execution: no contamination, no sample mix-ups, and complete, timely documentation.

This is an execution-focused, routine-intensive role. It is a strong fit for someone who enjoys precise laboratory work, moves quickly without sacrificing data integrity, and takes pride in making a repeatable process run well every day.

Contract: CDI · Location: Paris
Salary range: €30,000–€40,000
Experience: optional

We publish our expectations for transparency. If your profile does not match every point, we still encourage you to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Run screening campaigns with up to 24 shake-flask cultures and several plates in parallel, following SOPs and schedules without contamination
  • Inoculate, plate, restreak and extract microbial cultures, while maintaining sterile conditions
  • Label and track every culture, plate, and sample accurately from colony to analysis, with complete traceability
  • Support experimental workflows when needed, including transformations, colony picking, minipreps, and simple sample preparation
  • Support measurements and analyses such as optical density, plate-reader assays, and chemical extractions when required

Qualifications

Hard skills

  • BTS, Licence professionnelle, BSc, or equivalent training in microbiology, biotechnology, biochemistry, or a related field
  • Basic knowledge of microbiology and molecular biology, with the ability to execute established protocols cleanly
  • Strong laboratory dexterity and comfort with repetitive, high-throughput work such as pipetting plates and handling many samples
  • Practical experience with aseptic technique and microbial culture through coursework, an internship, an apprenticeship, or a professional laboratory
  • Excellent sample organisation, labelling discipline, and data integrity
  • Ability to manage several experiments at different stages without losing traceability
  • Comfortable recording and presenting data in spreadsheets and lab software
  • Bonus: experience with liquid-handling systems such as VIAFLO or Opentrons, plate readers, optical-density measurements, or chemical extractions

Soft skills

  • Rigour, reliability, and exceptional attention to detail
  • Speed and intensity while maintaining quality
  • Autonomy and a practical, solution-oriented mindset
  • Ability to coordinate autonomously with colleagues, solve minor operational problems, and ask for help early when it is the fastest route to a reliable result
  • Proactive and transparent communication, especially when something may have gone wrong
  • Comfort with routine and repeated laboratory workflows
  • Strong time management and an instinct for using waiting time productively
  • Team-first attitude and the ability to coordinate without constant management
  • Clear working communication in English
  • Creative ownership and a desire to keep improving how the work is done

Benefits

  • Employee Stock Options (BSPCE)
  • Health insurance (Alan), 100% covered
  • Lunch voucher of €12 per day, including €7 paid by the company, plus two team lunches per month
  • 75% reimbursement of a Navigo pass, or €55 per month toward other mobility options such as cycling or car-sharing
  • Individual training budget for skills development
